Samson’s Bar and Grill destroyed by fire

McCOLLOMS — Samson’s Bar and Grill, a classic Adirondack roadhouse with a reputation for great food and live music, was destroyed by a fire Wednesday. Business owner Bill Bentz said he noticed the fire at about noon after shoveling the driveway, shortly before he was scheduled to open. “When I went back inside, it was full of smoke,” said Bentz, who leases the building from Florida resident Lourier Paquet. More than two hours later, flames could still be seen in the back of the building in the vicinity of the kitchen. At 3:30 p.m., smoke continued to billow from the building but firefighters appeared to have fire contained. Samson’s is located on state Route 30 in the town of Brighton just across the line from Duane. No one was in the building when it caught fire. An upstairs apartment had recently been vacated and was unoccupied. The cause of the fire wasn’t immediately known.
