Gridlock as usual

To the editor: For quite some time, I have been frustrated with our government, both federal and state. It seems that if one party has a good idea, the other party is automatically opposed to it. The result is the people’s business gets done poorly or not at all. The current fiscal crises in New York state, along with the ongoing partisan bickering, has only added to my frustration. At age 68, I feel the need to write my first-ever letter to the editor. Governor Paterson says that there is a budget shortfall of nearly $2 billion. There apparently was a secret meeting last week. To discuss possible solutions? What did they have to say that they did not want us to hear, and whose money do they think it is? I am far from being a fiscal expert, but it is obvious that some across-the-board belt tightening is needed. This is sure to affect all of us, as it should. We can view it as part of our punishment for not paying more attention to what was going on in Albany. We are in this s
